Friday, 25th July, is System Administrator Appreciation Day, which you should use to honor and worship your friendly local sysadmin. You should definitely not forget to do this; as a textbook case, read the news about the sysadmin in San Francisco, who holds the whole municipal computer network hostage (but it is still up and running, although he sits in jail – he seems to be committed to providing stable services). Well, technically he is a network admin, but these fine distinctions become irrelevant on that scale.
Seems like the first reports (which were seeded by the city’s administration) were slightly, hmm, skewed. Be sure to read Paul Venezia’s report; it seems that the admin was doing a good job, but a new middle manager stepped onto his toes and tried to provoke him.
Anyway, be sure to treat your sysadmin well, especially next friday. Or else!
